Cape Wrath

Friday, July 25th, 2008

There are bit parts, sure. And then there are extreme bit parts, truly bit parts, where the actor is barely even seen. Harry Eden, though he’s doing well so far, was the subject of one of these bit parts in 2007 in the aborted television show Cape Wrath.

Cape Wrath is the story of a family under the witness protection program moving to a new community called the Meadowlands. At first it seems the perfect place for the fugitive Brogan family, as it’s crime-free and appropriately quiet. But the small town isn’t what it seems, and soon it turns out that the town is a kind of psychological experiment, and the Brogans are a part of it.

And Eden? His part is that of a reflection, nothing more. He plays the younger version of Jack Donnelly, a man guilty of kidnapping and sexually abusing a woman when he was younger. He served time in prison for the crime (the woman died after several days of torture) and was sent to Meadowlands after ten years of incarceration. In one scene Jack is looking into a mirror and he sees himself as he was when he killed the woman.

And that reflection is, of course, Harry Eden. Eden doubtless would have had a greater chance to expand on the character in future episodes; however, Cape Wrath was canceled after one season. A pity.
